Visiting Leavenworth in the Spring

Spring is the perfect time to visit Leavenworth and soak in its Bavarian charm. The snow is melted (usually), the trails are still muddy and the crowds are smaller, making it the ideal time to take in the downtown scene. Between browsing the shops and refueling with a hearty German meal, check out some of these other great spring activities located around the city center.

EXPERIENCE MAIFEST

The highlight of spring in downtown Leavenworth is the annual Maifest,
a signature event in town since 1971 that now includes festivities all month long.

Celebrate the beauty of spring in true Bavarian fashion with four weekends of music, dancing, and the traditional Festzug parade on the 14th.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL DOG LOVERS, the second weekend is traditionally a gathering
of Bernese Mountain Dog owners, and the town is bursting with members of this adorable
and distinctive breed.

HANG OUT WITH ANIMALS

Take a carriage ride – arrange for a horse-drawn carriage ride and see Leavenworth from a whole new perspective. The carriage departs from the Maipole in the center of town.
Visit the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm – this is a sure hit with kids and adults! Spring visitors might even get to meet the herd’s newest members. Visit their website for reservations and baby announcements. The reindeer farm is less than a mile from downtown and is accessible by foot along a wide, paved walking path. However, they also have a parking lot if you’d prefer to make the short drive.

Enzian Falls – See some of Leavenworth’s most popular residents – the Enzian goats! These friendly guys inhabit the hillside of the Enzian Falls Championship Putting Course just west of Gustav’s on Highway 2. Say hi from the sidewalk or rent some clubs and hang out for a while.

GO ON A GUIDED WALK

Explore Leavenworth through an educational lens and learn about what makes it such a truly special place to be!

Greater Leavenworth Museum – The Greater Leavenworth Museum offers two different tours led by local volunteers beginning in April. Visit their website to learn about their current offerings, departure times, and reserve a space. Also, be sure to check out the museum itself, located at 735 Front St. on the second floor (there is an elevator) above the world-famous Nutcracker Museum.

Wenatchee River Institute – Located above Barn Beach the Wenatchee River Institute offers a variety of informative, nature-based programming for all ages. Join them for a “Spring Saunter” through Riverfront Park and take in the sounds of returning birds along the Wenatchee River.
